    Teacher Licenses

NC Teachers must hold a license for the subject or grade level they teach. Local policy states establishing and maintaining licensure with NCDPI is the responsibility of the individual employee.  Failure to establish or maintain current licensure is grounds for dismissal.  For more information regarding license requirements for the state of North Carolina, please visit the NC DPI Licensure Website

     License Renewal Information

Continuing licenses must be renewed every five years. Each license holder is responsible for knowing and satisfying license renewal requirements. Failure to renew your North Carolina license makes one ineligible for employment unless a validation of your expired license is requested by an employing school system.

Please note: Individuals who will renew an educator’s license should maintain their own documentation of renewal credit activities.
No renewal credit records are maintained by NCDPI Licensure Section.
